PRODUCTION BIOGRAPHIES
JOEL SHAPIRO – DIRECTOR:
Joel Shapiro has been working in film and television for over twenty years. He has worked on crew as a DP, Audio person, Producer and Director on broadcast and corporate productions. He has Written and Directed numerous short films, several of which have played major festivals domestically and internationally. He is a graduate of San Francisco State where he majored in Film Studies and is currently in his fourth year at Columbia University’s Film Division, as a Directing Concentrate. Joel has been interested in directing a Tesla film for many years. Joel recently won both a S16mm film award from Kodak and a Sloan Foundation Production Grant, specifically for this project covering 50% of the budget.
SUSHIL TYAGI – EXECUTIVE PRODUCER:
Mr. Tyagi is President of TriColor Pictures, a film production company in Los Angeles. He is currently producing a slate of films from Imax projects, to Independent films, to a large budget Hollywood epic. Sushil has a background as an Actor in his native India, and has worked in film and television in Hollywood. After leaving the acting world, he graduated from Wharton Business school and had a long career as a high level Entertainment Consultant in Hollywood, before starting his own company in 2001. As a long time associate of Mr. Shapiro, Sushil also shares and interest and passion in the Tesla story, and hopes to eventually produce a feature film project with Mr. Shapiro at the helm.
DAVID SEBAG – PRODUCER:
A colleague of Joel’s at Columbia Film Division, David and Joel have worked together successfully on numerous short-form projects. David is founder of Dedalus Media, a New York based interactive arts and film production company. Before taking on filmmaking full-time, David worked as Product Manager and Strategist for top New Media brands such as HotJobs.com and the interactive arm of French communications giant, Publicis SA. The VISIONARY project is an exceptional expression of David’s long term passion for the convergence of art, technology, and personal narrative.
KEV ROBERTSON – DP:
Kev Robertson is a long-time associate of Mr. Shapiro, and the two have worked together professionally for over 6 years while in San Francisco. Mr. Robertson was the DP on Joel’s acclaimed short 16mm film, “Garden of the Demigods”. He has shot second unit for Roger Deakins, who continues to act as a mentor. Kev is currently working in Los Angeles on Music Videos, Commercials and Independent films.
AL DAVIDIAN – WRITER:
Al is a graduating student at Columbia in the Film Division as a Writing Concentrate and has been working with Joel for over a year developing the Tesla project. Al and Joel have workshoped the project extensively.
JOHN DOWDELL – POST PRODUCTION CONSULTANT/COLORIST:
John is a personal friend of Mr. Shapiro, and the former Vice President of Technicolor’s Post facility in New York City. He is at the top of his profession and has worked with most major NY directors from Woody Allen to James Ivory to the Coen Brothers.DAVID FISHEL – EDITOR
